DIN
Director Identification Number
Definition
A unique identification number allotted to an individual who is, or intends to become, a director of a company in India.
In plain language
A DIN identifies a person, not a company. It is allotted once and stays with that individual, so the same number is used for every company where they serve as a director.
It appears on the company filings that involve its directors, which lets the Ministry of Corporate Affairs connect each director to the companies they are associated with.
Example
A founder who becomes a director of two companies uses the same DIN for both appointments.
