DSC
Digital Signature Certificate
Definition
An electronic certificate, issued by a licensed Certifying Authority, that lets a person sign documents and filings digitally.
In plain language
A DSC is the electronic equivalent of a signature on paper. It ties a signature to an identified person, so a document signed with it can be checked for who signed it and whether it has changed since.
Many government filings are submitted online and must be signed by an authorised person, which is why directors and other signatories commonly need one.
Example
Directors typically sign the electronic forms filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs using their DSCs.
